David Boyd Teaching at my Workshop Center
June 6-8, 2025 Space is limited!
We are so thrilled to annoucne that award-winning painter, David Boyd, will be teaching here this June 6, 7 & 8th. Please join us for a 3-Day experience with David as he will lead you through the process of painting from concept to completon. He calls this course, “Hunting & Gathering.” David knows how to draw. It is evident in his painting but you will learn a great deal about the design aspect of your art from him. He does preparatory studies with pencil and ink that are crucial to the success of his work. He photographs his reference and paints in the field where he often returns to the studio to complete either the plein air painting he began on site, or, to create a larger piece based on his field study. It’s a through and educational journey he will take you on!

He describes it this way:
Day 1 and the morning of Day 2: David will show you how he likes to gather information to create a larger oil painting. After that you will sketch, draw, photograph and explore our surroundings. David likes to do pen and ink drawings, notan sketches, small color studies and take photos. He ensures a variety of medium when gathering information… acrylic, gouache and oil are some of his favorites.
Day 2 afternoon and Day 3: David will show you how he uses the images and sketches he has gathered to paint a larger studio piece that he will work on during the course of the day. Artists will start using the information they have gathered to create a larger finished piece. David will circulate around the studio helping individually and spending time on the larger painting.
